Police to come down hard on those who left Western Province
Police will file action against persons who had travelled out of the Western Province in defiance of guidelines issued to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
They will be charged with violating quarantine regulations under the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance, police spokesman, DIG Ajith Rohana said.
He said that a special operation has been launched to trace those who had left the Western Province despite the police making it clear that travelling outside the region was taboo.
The police are also focusing on hotels, guest houses and other places of accommodation where people may have lodged after traveling out of the Province.
“We are also trying to find out whether some people had left for areas outside the Western Province by circumventing road blocks”, he said.
