The Kalutara South Police are looking for a 29-year-old married man who has gone missing since the death of his 16-year-old girlfriend, whose body was found near the railway line behind a hotel on the main street of Galle Road in Kalutara.
Police said the deceased was a resident of Nagoda, Kalutara. She had come to the hotel with the missing person and another young couple on Saturday evening and had booked two rooms in the hotel.
They consumed liquor there, as per the statements recorded by the police. One couple left the hotel a few hours after while the deceased and her lover remained there. Thereafter the person who was with the deceased also left the hotel. Hours later, the body of the girl was found near the railway track behind the hotel. The couple who had been with the deceased came to the police station yesterday and police recorded their statements.
Investigators found that the deceased had submitted a national identity card belonging to a 19-year-old friend of hers. The NIC’s owner too had been questioned, police said, adding that the deceased was a student of a leading school in Kalutara.
Police said it was too early to determine whether the girl had jumped off an upper floor of the hotel or was killed near the spot from where her body was recovered.
Police said the suspect had married twice.
