The Police Marine Division continues to scour the Kelani River between Hanwella and Modera, where it falls to the sea to find the severed head of the woman who was murdered by a Sub Inspector of Police at a guest- house in Hanwella.

The decapitated body of the 30-year-old woman from Kuruwita was found stuffed in a bag and left at Dam Street in Colombo on March 1. The SI hanged himself a few days later as the police closed in on him.

Police have so far not found the head of the woman or her bag. Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the victim had used a black bag and they believed that the suspect would have put her head in it and thrown it into the Kelani River.

DIG Rohana said the guest house, in which the SI and the victim had met, was in the vicinity of the Kelani River and that they suspect the SI might have thrown the head of the woman along with her bag into the River.

The DIG also said DNA samples had been taken from the woman’s mother and relatives to identify the body.
