Police put up over 500 roadblocks

Police yesterday put up over 500 roadblocks to turn back Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) supporters who were on their way to Colombo from different parts of the country for a massive protest. The Police managed to turn back a large number of vehicles carrying SJB supporters.

Roadblocks were also set up near the entrances to highways.

However, a large number of vehicles had evaded the barriers, the Police said. There were heated arguments between policemen and SJB supporters at many roadblocks, especially in Bentota, Nochchiyagama, Hatton, Kudagama, Maskeliya, Bandaragama, Lunugamwehera, Galle, Kurunegala and Anuradhapura.
