Police net 773 kilos of heroin and ‘ice’ along with 14,348 suspects in six months

Police have arrested 14,348 suspects during the past six months with 773 kilos of heroin and crystal methamphetamine (‘ice’) with a street value of more than Rs. 8 billion.

Those arrested included 12,890 suspects with 473 kilos of heroin and 1,458 suspects with 300 kilos of ‘ice’, said Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana.

So far this year, 8,509 suspects were also arrested with 3,485 kilos of cannabis valued around Rs. 720 million, according to the police spokesman.

The police media spokesman also said that about 40 key persons who were operating the drug network had been arrested and were currently in jail.
