Police looking for fishers who collected floating packs of heroin
The interrogation of a person, 43, arrested with 544 g of heroin at Dickwella on Sunday (06) led to the detection of 25 packs containing heroin by a fishing craft off the Kudawella fisheries harbour, on Oct. 11 this year.
Police identified the suspect as a member of the six-man crew of the fishing craft that detected two floating bags tied together. There had been 25 packs of heroin in those bags, a senior police official said.
On information elicited from the fisherman arrested at Nakulugamuwa, Dikwella, the Matara branch of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB), on Monday (07), apprehended another crew member, 42, at Ambepitiya, Beruwela, along with eight kilos of heroin.
Police are looking for the owner of the fishing vessel, and the remaining crew members. (SF)
