35 cops asked for but only three given

Government Printer, Gangani Kalpana Liyanage, yesterday told the media the Department of Government Printing was without adequate police protection and that was hindering the printing of ballot papers for the local council elections.

Liyanage said she had asked the police to deploy 35 police officers, during daytime, and 25 at night, to ensure security. However, only three policemen had been deployed.

The Government Printer added that yesterday they had started printing notices, used at polling queues.
