Police continue to break arrest records to keep country safe

With the arrest of 914 persons on Saturday (29) for violating regulations including not wearing masks and failing to maintain distance, the police had broken arrest records for the fourth consecutive day, DIG Ajith Rohana said
The Police Media Spokesman said that Saturday had seen the highest number of arrests made in a single day since the pandemic began on March 18, 2020.
He said that as many as 17,300 arrests had been made since Oct 30, 2020, over quarantine law violations.
Meanwhile, in a special operation carried out in the Western Province, 4,324 three-wheelers were inspected and 20 of them along with 25 individuals were taken into police custody for violation of quarantine rules and regulations.
Further, 2,389 individuals have been checked at the 14 entry and exit points of the Western Province. DIG Rohana said that 250 persons along with 151 vehicles had been turned away as they were attempting to cross provincial boundaries without valid reasons.
