Police arrest couple who helped Booru Moona

The Police have arrested a husband and wife who are said to have provided shelter to a notorious criminal, known as Booru Moona, involved in nine murders, and helped the wanted man to escape from police custody, with the help of two monks.

The couple has been arrested in Nuwara Eliya.

Police said that CCTV footage helped identify the husband as the person who had given money to make fake passports for Booru Moona and who had also brought the suspect to the airport for him to escape to a foreign country.

Accordingly, he was arrested while hiding in the Nuwara Eliya area and handed over to the Negombo police for further investigations.

It has been revealed that the suspect is a 35-year-old naval rating and a resident of Aluthgama.

The suspect was arrested, based on information received by the officers of the Police Special Task Force Intelligence Division.

The Police Special Task Force said the suspect’s wife was also arrested.

Booru Moona went to the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), with this suspect, on March 24, to flee to Dubai, under the false name of Koralage Kankanamla Ravidu Varna Ranga, with a fake passport.

Immigration Department officials, at the BIA, arrested him and handed him over to the Airport Police.
