Police arrest 995 for violating health regulations

Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana yesterday said 995 persons had been arrested in the last 24 hours for violating health regulations.

The highest number of violators numbering 138 had been arrested in Matale followed by 129 arrested in Kandy, the DIG said.

They were arrested for not wearing masks and ignoring the physical distancing rule.

The DIG said a total of 23,945 persons had been arrested on the relevant charges since 30 Oct, last year. Those who violated the travel restrictions were also arrested, the Police Spokesman said.
