PM told tourism will earn USD 800 mn in current year
The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) on Tuesday (14) said they expect to attract around 800,000 tourists in the coming months of the year.
During a meeting with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, representatives of SLTDA said that a revenue of 800 million US Dollars was expected during the coming months of 2022.
The Prime Minister requested officials to make arrangements for the resumption of operations of the Palaly Airport.
Wickremesinghe said that Sri Lanka expected to attract around 2.5 million tourists by 2025.
A revenue of 3.5 billion US Dollars is expected from tourism in 2025.
The Prime Minister also instructed the tourism stakeholders to attract youth to the tourism sector as a large number of experienced employees in the hospitality sector have left the country.
He added that the number of new recruits to hotel schools has come down drastically as well.
The Prime Minister also urged officials to improve the Galle Literary Festival to attract more authors and literary lovers from all over the world.
