PM reiterates commitment to unitary character of state

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has pledged to protect Sri Lanka’s unitary status. Gunawardena, who is also the leader of the MEP, made this pledge at the Kataragama Kirivehera on Saturday (26).

The MEP parliamentary group members Yadamini Gunawardena and Sisira Jayakody accompanied the PM.The Prime Minister stated: “We will preserve the unitary state, territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of our motherland.”

The MEP and its leader have declared their commitment to preserving the unitary status of the state amidst moves to implement the 13th Amendment to theConstitution fully, granting more powers to the Provincial Councils.

The rebel SLPP group recently urged the Premier to declare his stand on devolution, particularly the full implementation of the 13th Amendment in the wake of President Ranil Wickremesinghe seeking proposals from all political parties regarding the 13th Amendment.
