PM invites Chinese researchers to try out high yielding rice paddy strain in Sri Lanka
Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena who was in Kunming China to attend the 7th China-South Asia Expo visited the Science and Technology Campus in DaliCity, the ancient capital of the province.
Researchers at the University have developed a new strain of rice paddy that gives four times more yield than normal varieties of rice paddy. Vice Chancellor of the research campus, Prof Zhoo Jin explained that the new strain of rice paddy require only a small quantity of water and it can be grown in dry zones.
The Prime Minister invited the agriculture campus to grow the new high yielding rice paddy in Sri Lanka as a pilot project.
