PM attends ground breaking ceremony for Port City 120,000sq.ft. Business Centre
The groundbreaking ceremony for the Business Centre at the Colombo Port City took place yesterday morning with the participation of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong.
The 120,000 sq.ft. Business Center will be completed by the third quarter of 2024 and will consist of many modern facilities.
Addressing the gathering, Premier Gunawardena said Sri Lanka’s biggest advantage is its strategic location and that the Colombo Port City will fast track Sri Lanka’s rise to a regional hub.
It’s much easier to do business at the Colombo Port City with the changes made by the government, he said.
Gunawardena said he believes that the Colombo Port City Economic Commission can implement the plans made for the Port City as scheduled.
The prime minister said that they have a great trust in the China Merchants Port Holdings Company (CMPH).
Chairman of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Dinesh Weerakkody said that the Port City will add 15 billion U.S dollars to the gross domestic product (GDP) annually.
The Chinese ambassador said that this is another milestone in the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The Chinese support sends the international community the message that the Sri Lankan economy is back on track.
Spanning 269 hectares of reclaimed land from the sea, the Port City will comprise five precincts including the Financial District, Central Park Living, Island Living, the Marina and the International Island. (RK)
