PIM and PIMA Collaborate to Meet Pandemic-created Organizational Challenges

The Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM), the country’s leading management institute, conducted an induction cum orientation programme, on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at the Institute, for ten industry-experts from 
the PIM alumni. The objective was to tap their expertise to guide the Institute’s MBA students in their final projects. As these experts themselves had undergone the rigour of completing the final projects in their postgraduate studies, the PIM considered as most apt to tap their expertise to mentor the current MBA students towards producing impactful projects that will be of value both to the PIM and their respective organizations alike.
While this PIM-PIMA collaboration dawned a new chapter in both the organizations working in reciprocity, it was, indeed, an innovative approach, as the Institute rightly considered that the PIMA was the closest in accomplishing the Institute’s academic pursuits. A further advantage of this holy combination was the PIMA’s ability to tap the desired expertise from both public and private sectors, as the students represented both these sectors. These experts were fully aware of the challenges the organizations faced due to the pandemic-threat.
Dr. Kelum Gamage, Director, PIM, expressed the vital role the PIMA is destined to play in the affairs of the parent organization as the PIM solicits the services of specialists who are readily available in their pool of resources. Dr. Trevor Mendis, Head of academic affairs, PIM, highlighted the increased number of projects related to issues created by the pandemic, and the importance of the PIM’s role in responding to this need. Mr. Denzil Perera, President, PIMA, thanked all those who have responded to the call of giving back to the PIM. Dr. Gayan Jayakody, Project-coordinator, PIM, conducted the orientation session.
The Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka (AHK Sri Lanka) proudly facilitated the first-ever Sri Lankan delegation’s participation at Drupa 2024, the world’s largest trade fair for the printing industry and technology. Held after an eight-year hiatus, Drupa 2024 was a landmark event, marking significant advancements and opportunities in the global printing industry.
AHK Sri Lanka played a pivotal role in organising and supporting the delegation, which comprised 17 members from the Sri Lanka Association for Printers (SLAP), representing eight companies from the commercial, newspaper, stationery printing, and packaging industries. This pioneering effort by AHK Sri Lanka not only showcased the diverse capabilities of Sri Lanka’s printing sector but also facilitated vital bilateral discussions with key stakeholders from the German printing industry.
