PHIs’ union boss threatens to prosecute organisers of big religious events
By Rathindra Kuruwita
Public Health Inspectors’ Union (PHIU) President Upul Rohana said yesterday that legal action would be taken against those who organised religious programmes with large congregations.
Rohana said that despite repeated requests a number of religious events were being held with little regard for COVID-19 guidelines.
Rohana said that they had received information that a large religious event was held at a Kovil in Talawakelle recently.
He said such poojas were not allowed and warned that legal action would be taken against the organisers for violating health protocols.
Rohana urged religious leaders, activists, and politicians to act responsibly to prevent another spike in the pandemic that would cripple the country with it being forced to lockdown.
