Philosopher Uneclipsed

The Tech Age’s razzle-dazzle effects,

And instant Internet knowledge,

Seem to be crafting the epitaph,

Of the Speculative Philosopher,

For whom surfing the surface of things,

And shelving rigorous, patient analysis,

Were of human rationality unbecoming,

And with poetic great T.S. Eliot we may ask:

‘Where’s the wisdom we’ve lost in knowledge?’

Yet, the philosopher remains supreme,

Though the 4th Industrial Revolution,

Has ushered ‘disruptive energies’,

Which will accrue to the human good,

The prophets of the New Age argue,

But Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Confucius,

And other profound spirits of their ilk,

Remain unchallenged to this day,

Being touchstones of rational excellence…

They help keep the Beast within on a leash.
