Petrol to be released to the market this weekend?

The Ministry of Power and Energy yesterday said a Letter of credit (LC) for USD 42.6 million had been opened by People’s Bank to purchase a shipment of 300,000 barrels of Octane 92 Petrol.Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara said that petrol could be released to the market by this weekend, if Letters of Credit are opened without delay.

Wijesekara added that a quota system for fuel would definitely be introduced in July.A person has to register with the nearest shed, the Minister said.60% of the fuel requirement should be obtained at the registered shed and the rest at any other station, he said.
