Pathmasiri Dissanayakelage Priyalal Chaminda Sirisena Attorney-at-Law yesterday filed an application in the Court of Appeal under Article 105/3 of the Constitution requesting the Court to issue summons/rule on the first respondent, Sanath Nishantha MP of the SLPP for the Puttalam District and to show cause as to why he should not be punished for committing the offence of Contempt of Court, and further to direct the Attorney General to forward the charges.
The petitioner wants the Court to direct its Registrar to call for original video recordings containing the statement made by Sanath Nishantha, the first respondent, held by media institutions, which covered the press conference on 23 August 2022 at the party headquarters of the SLPP.
The petitioner has also requested the Court of Appeal to direct the Attorney General to draft charges under the Constitution of Sri Lanka.
