Petition challenging appointment of Cabraal as CB Governor dismissed

The Writ Application (CA Writ 417/2021) filed by former Governor of the Southern Province, Keerthi Thennakoon, against the appointment of Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal as the Governor of the Central Bank was dismissed by the Court of Appeal yesterday, on the grounds that the Petitioner had not established a prima facie case.

Appeal Court Judges Sobhitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola rejected the writ application without taking it up for hearing.

Another Writ Application against Governor Cabraal’s appointment filed by Ariyawansa Dissanayake (former Presidential candidate) was also withdrawn by the Petitioner last week.

President’s Counsel Romesh de Silva appeared with Sugath Caldera for Cabraal. Additional Solicitor General Nerin Pulle PC appeared for the Attorney General.

Maithree Gunaratne PC appeared for the petitioner.
