Peterites celebrating …around the globe
In Sri Lanka, the old and the present boys, had a lot to shout about when their cricket team triumphed over their arch-rivals, St. Joseph’s College, Maradana, in their annual 50-over encounter.
A memorable win, indeed, to celebrate the school’s 100 years as a leading educational institution.
Believe me, my very first school (as a tiny tot) was St. Clare’s College, Wellawatte, and then it was all St. Peter’s….
While the Peterites, in London, are eagerly looking forward to their special event, scheduled for September 17th, the OBA of St. Peter’s College (Melbourne branch), celebrated their centenary event, in grand style, with a special dinner dance, at the Springvale Town Hall, in Melbourne.
The sold out event, says our man in Melbourne, Trevine Rodrigo, was coordinated with the flair and finesse that the boys from Sri Lanka’s prestigious Colombo school have been known for.
“It lived up to all expectations, with the fabulous outfit, from Melbourne, Next Generation, providing the right kind of music, for such a prestigious event, and they were ably supported by DJ Damian.”
Trevine went on to say that Silverline Caterers dished out a classy smorgasbord dinner, and that the floor shows completed a superb night of entertainment.
“A great spectacle was on show, thanks to President Jerome Chandrasekera, and his dedicated team of volunteers, who put together a memorable celebration for the Peterite community, and their supporters and friends.
“Springvale Town Hall was packed to capacity, with a fantastic turnout. The vibe, throughout the evening, was electrifying, and it was great to see people having a good time, especially after the difficult two years past – not forgetting the difficult time our motherland, Sri Lanka, is going through, at present.”
Trevine indicated that 50% of the raffle proceeds will go to help needy Peterites, in Sri Lanka.
The singing of the college anthem was followed by the cutting of the Centenary Cake, and a toast to the College with Blue, White and Gold liqueurs.
A Peterite choral group also sang a selection of songs.
