People, not fooled by politicians
I refer to Rohana R.Wasala’s article in The Island of 09 Dec., captioned “Attack on Cardinal outrageous and unacceptable” particularly the concluding para “I would like to wind up with this tentative proposal, respectfully offered, for the attention of the President: What about inviting representatives of the clergy of the three minority religions – they should be of the same stature as the Nayaka monks within their respective hierarchies – to be participating guest members of the Buddhist Advisory Council that the President consults every month? The possible advantages of such a move are self-evident”.
I would also like to submit that almost all Christians would have voted for Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the last Presidential election, in the hope that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa would ensure that those guilty of killing in the Easter Sunday carnage would be exposed and punished!
A fair number of Tamils from the North and East and Muslims appear to have voted for the President, and with the Sinhala Buddhist vote that assured a massive victory to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The disgust by the people, of the Yahapalana government, was shown at the last Provincial Council elections in 2018 and repeated at the last General election!
What our politicians should always remember is that we have a 95% literate population who cannot be fooled by mere promises!
