Peliyagoda fish market to be rebooted without ‘money’ soon
State Minister of Fisheries Kanchana Wijesekera yesterday said the Peliyagoda Fish Market would reopen shortly, adhering to health guidelines. Initially, only wholesale trading would be permitted, he said.
Wijesekera also told officials that there had to be a mechanism to register all vendors at the market and that the use of currency notes and coins had to be stopped. Officials should work with state banks and implement a cashless system for transactions at the market, the state minister said.
Wijesekera said so following an inspection tour of the Peliyagoda Fish Market yesterday.
Peliyagoda Fish Market cluster is the biggest COVID-19 cluster in Sri Lanka.
