KANDY  — Entry to the Central Province from outside will be limited in the future due to the spread of COVID-19.

Central Province Governor Lalith U Gamage told the media that those who entered the Central Province without a valid reason would be subjected to PCR testing.

Governor Gamage said so at a meeting of the committee tasked with controlling the pandemic in the province.

However, workers and others who travel to the Central Province for valid reasons would not have to undergo mandatory PCR tests, the Governor said.

Gamage said that all possible steps had been  taken to control the spread of the virus in the province and the region would be safe only if the public co-operated with the pandemic control committee fully.

The Governor said that Teldeniya Base Hospital which was a treatment centre for COVID patients was equipped with a PCR testing machine.

He warned that stern action would be taken against bus operators who violated the health regulations in place to control the pandemic.
