Kavindu Pathirathne, a 19-year-old quick from Tamil Union was the cynosure of all eyes after claiming eight wickets in an innings against Negombo CC in a Major Club Emerging three-day tournament game worked off over the weekend.

Pathirathne ran through the top and middle order of Negombo CC to bowl them out for 118 runs.

The right-arm pacemen made early inroads with the new ball and came back for a second spell to run through the middle order to give Tamil Union early advantage.

In reply, Tamil Union posted 308 all out with Kamesh Nirmal top scoring with 90 runs.

The efforts of Pathirathne were the talking point in cricket circles last week. He had also hammered a hundred against Ragama CC a fortnight ago. A left-handed batsman, Pathirathne is a product of Royal College. He was Royal’s vice-captain last season.
