Passed Pawn Chess Club win title

CFSL Online Women Team Chess Championships 2022

The Passed Pawn Chess Club inclusive of WIM Sachini Ranasinghe (Captain), WIM Nelunika Metmani, WIM from India B Shri Savitha, WFM Dasuni Hansika Mendis and WCM Sanudula Dahamdi won the title of the CFSL Online Women Team Chess Championships 2022 organised by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka. They dominated the finals against Mayor’s Chess Club scoring 3 ½ to ½ in both rounds.

Dahamdi repeatedly beat the Indian WIM Mishella Catherine in both rounds while Sachini Ranasinghe and WIM from India Shri Savitha also had little competition against their opponents earning both points for their team. Dasuni Hansika Mendis drew the both games.

Mayor’s Chess Club consisting of Kaveesha Indrajith, HMMD Herath, WIM from India Michelle Catherine, BSMT Cooray and DADT Srilal settled for the silver medal.

In the consolation finals, Black Knight Chess Club consisting of Naduni Abeywardana, Wonara Gunatilake, Anuththara Chandrasiri, Roschell Nathasha Askey and Pevinya Pieris beat Kriegspiel Chess Academy team in both rounds (2 ½ – 1 ½) to earn the bronze medal. In the first round, Pevinya Pieris and Wonara Gunatilleke scored points for Black Knight while SAK Chandrasiri drew to score 2 ½. NT Abeywardena lost to Minethma Lasandi Wickramasinghe. In the second round, Roschell Nathasha Askey and Naduni Abeywardana scored two points while Pevinya Pieris got a draw. Anuththara Chandrasiti lost in this round to Sayumi Gamage.

Kriegspiel Chess Academy were placed fourth. The team also included Esandi Newansa and Kaveeshwari de Silva.

The Online Women Team Chess Championships 2022 conducted by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka was held from January 8 to 12 on the Tornelo Platform. The time control was five minutes and 10 seconds per each move played.
