Part of Sisu Seriya cost passed on to parents

Minister of Transport, Bandula Gunawardena, yesterday said that the government was not in a position to fund the Sisu Seriya school bus service fully, and parents would have to bear part of the cost of the service.

Considering the prevailing economic situation in the country, the government would bear only 70% of Sisu Seriya school bus service.

The government had decided to exempt low-income families, receiving subsidies from paying for the service to ensure their children would continue to benefit from the programme.
