Parliament Secretary General says SC recommendations included in OSB

Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera yesterday (01) said that Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena had endorsed the certificate on Online Safety Bill after the Attorney General cleared the way by confirming the said Bill contained the amendments recommended by the Supreme Court.
Rohanadeera said when The Island asked her whether the concerns raised by the Opposition about the government disregarding the recommendations made by the Supreme Court at the Committee Stage of the Bill had been looked into.
SC declared that the Bill could be passed with a simple majority if clauses 3, 5, 7, 9, 11,12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 36, 37, 42, 45 and 53 were amended. The SC also determined that clause 56 should be passed by a special majority in Parliament. (SF)
