Parliament proceedings to continue despite three MPs contracting coronavirus

Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake yesterday said that the proceedings of Parliament would continue in compliance with health guidelines, although three MPs had contracted COVID-19.
Dasanayake said that discussions had been held with the health authorities regarding the situation and the places the COVID-19 infected MPs visited had been disinfected by now.
Random PCR tests were also being conducted on the parliamentary staff who had come into conctact with the infected MPS, he said, adding that arrangements had also been made, with the help of health officials, to conduct PCR tests on all Parliament staff at the complex in the next few days.

The Committee on Parliamentary Business is scheduled to meet on Jan 13 at 2.00 pm under the chairmanship of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena to decide on the procedure for next sittings of Parliament.
The Secretary General said that the staff of the Secretary General was ready to continue with the proceedings of Parliament, in accordance with the decisions taken by the Speaker and the party leaders.
