Parliament clears Ex-CJ’s appointment as SL envoy to UN

A government proposal for appointing former Chief Justice Mohan Peiris as the new Sri Lankan Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Headquarters in New York was approved by the Committee on High Posts, parliament announced yesterday.

Peiris appeared before the Committee on High Posts held in Parliament yesterday (03) under the patronage of the Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena, Johnston Fernando, Douglas Devananda, Keheliya Rambukwella and Members of Parliament.

Rishad Bathiudeen and Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka were also present at the meeting. (SI)
