Palmyrah toddy exported to France for first time pours more than US $ 45,000 into SL economy

The Palmyrah Development Board recently appointed Sarl Liyano- Rafal, one of the leading distribution companies in France to promote and export Sri Lanka’s Palmyrah products to the European markets.

Dr. Krishantha Pathiraja, Chairman of the Palmyra Development Board told the Island Financial Review that as a result of this appointment, the new French distribution agents were able to secure an order to export 25,000 bottles of Sri Lankan Palmyrah toddy to France, which brought more than US $ 45,000 to the country.

Signifying it as a historic event for the Sri Lankan Palmyrah industry, the Chairman said that they are encouraged it would pave the way to promoting Sri Lankan Palmyra products to the lucrative market in the European region.

The Island Financial Review

was further informed that the Minister of Plantation Industries, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana and State Minister Arundika Fernando had taken the initiative to tap this new source of foreign exchange, with the support of the Sri Lankan Ambassador to France, Shanika Hiriburegama.
