The Old Wesleyites Sports Club (OWSC) has finalized arrangements to conduct the much looked forward to Double Blue Hockey 7’s which is scheduled to be played at Campbell Park from 8.00 a.m. onwards on Sunday (April 21).

The OWSC are conducting this for the second successive year which is fought out for the Walter Jayasuriya Trophy. The late Walter Jayasuriya is a synonymous name in the field of hockey as he is known as the “Father of Sri Lanka Hockey. He played a crucial role in shaping the hockey landscape of the country and this tournament is named in his honor, pays tribute to his remarkable contributions and the enduring legacy he left behind..

This time out the tournament is going to be special as it coincides with the 150 years celebration of Wesley College and the organizers are leaving no stone unturned to make it a memorable one,  to be an exhilarating display of hockey prowess as both men’s and women’s teams compete.

The tournament will see the participation of 14 teams comprising ten men’s teams and four women’s teams from leading schools, showcasing their exceptional talent and competitive spirit. With the rich history of the OWSC, which has nurtured numerous hockey players over the past years, the event promises to be a celebration of the sport and the legacy of Wesley hockey.

In the men’s category, top old boys teams including the hosts, Old Wesleyites Sports Club, Old Kingswoodians Hockey Club, Old Bens Sports Club, Royal College Hockey Club, Old Thomian Hockey Union, Old Nalandian Hockey Club, Old Ananda Hockey Wing, Old Trinitians Sports Club, Old Joes Hockey Club, and Old Peterite Sports Club will battle it out for the coveted title. The four women’s teams in the fray are Visakhians Hockey, Bishopian Hockey, Old Janadhipathi Hockey Wing, and Old Musaeites Hockey Club.

In the inaugural Double Blue Hockey 7s held last year Old Kinsgwoodians HC emerged as the champions of the men’s league, while Janadhipathi Hockey Wing claimed victory in the women’s league. , Royal College Hockey Club bagged the Plate title and Old Thomian Hockey Union Mt Lavinia secured the men’s Bowl title.
