Owner of collapsed building further remanded

KANDY –

The owner of the five STOREY building at Buwelikada, Kandy that collapsed on an adjoining house, killing a three-member family, was further remanded till November 10 by the Kandy Additional magistrate Sampath Gamage yesterday (27).

 The building at Sanghamitta Mawatha, Buwelikada collapsed burying alive a 35-year-old father, 32-year-old mother and their one-and-a-half-month-old infant at dawn on September 20.

Suspect Lewke was defended by counsel Nanda Senanayake when the case was taken up on Tuesday. A member of the Kandy Bar Association appeared for the aggrieved  party.

Chief Inspector Bandara of the Kandy police objecting to granting of bail said that investigations into the tragedy were incomplete. Hence, Lewke was remanded for a further period of two weeks.
