Over two million devotees converge at A’pura, Mihintale during Poson

Over two million devotees had arrived in Anuradhapura and Mihintale on 04 June to take part in religious activities to mark the sacred Poson Poya day, Chairman of the Anuradhapura Poson Committee, District Secretary, Janaka Jayasundara said.

He said that the Poson week started on 31 May and would end on 06 June. There were a large number of dansal in the district, as well, Jayasundara said.

Anuradhapura Urban Council, Chief PHI Nuwan Kulatunga said they had deployed a large number of officials to ensure that sanitary facilities were available to all devotees.

Anuradhapura ASP (1) Sanjeewa Mahanama said that there had been fewer accidents this year. “No one has died while bathing in tanks by Sunday night. There were no significant accidents around Mihintale as well,” he said.
