‘Over six million stray dogs in Sri Lanka’

There are more than six million stray dogs in Sri Lanka, State Minister of Defence Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon ha said.Tennakoon told Parliament yesterday those dogs had become a nuisance in tourist destinations such as Sigiriya.

He said there were 6.2 million stray dogs in the country and it was important to find solutions to the problem.

Minister Tennakoon said the government would be introducing new laws to minimise harm to animals and stressed the need to find solutions to issues caused by animals in a humane manner.
