Opposition making din over 20A for undue ‘popularity’ – Prime Minister
By Norman Palihawadana
The opposition is trying to secure for themselves undue ‘popularity’ by opposing the proposed 20th Amendment to the Constitution, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said.
“The masses cannot be fooled by making senseless noises over a proposed constitutional amendment the country needs at this point of time”, he said in a brief interview with The Sunday Island.
Within a democratic framework, there is room for dissent and, therefore, anybody is at liberty to oppose the proposed amendment as well. There’s no issue on that score but the opposition is making a big noise to gain popularity both nationally and internationally, the premier noted.
“The opposition should bear in mind that the SLPP government has a two-thirds mandate given by the people to usher the country towards an era of prosperity”, Rajapaksa stressed.
