Opportunity to check out the ’60s and ’70s era

When he last visited Sri Lanka…February, 2022

Those who have experienced the music of the ’60s and ’70s refer to that period as the ‘golden era’ where it was a joy listening to those artistes warble away – pitch perfect, meaningful lyrics, music that didn’t blast one’s eardrums, and…oh, what lovely voices!

Nowadays, it’s all sound, with poor quality voices (using voice enhancers to do the needful).

In the good old days, we had outstanding performers, and some are still around, and active in the scene here – Mignonne and Noeline, for example.

I believe there isn’t any talent out there that compares to the performers of the’60s and the’70s – it’s just not possible.

But…the good news is you can experience the ’60s and ’70s scene, commencing Thursday, February 09, at the Galadari Hotel, right here in Colombo.

Remember Roger Menezes – the guy who used to perform with some of the best local outfits, including the Jetliners?

This versatile performer, who now resides in Australia, did a similar scene, at the Galadari, in 2022, during the month of February, and he is ready to do the needful again.

He will be featured, in the Lobby, from Thursday to Sunday, till March 4th, 2023.

The Galadari Hotel, in Colombo, has always kept their guests entertained…on a regular basis, with several local artistes providing entertainment, despite the problems that have been around, since the pandemic came into the scene.

Of course, with Roger, in town, the entertainment, at the hotel’s Lobby, is going to be doubly exciting.

A Peterite, he was seen in action with many of our top bands, including the Jetliners, Fireflies, Thunderbirds, Sam the Man, the Savages, and with his own band, Roger and the Webs, before migrating to Australia, in 1973.

Roger Menezes: A trip down memory lane

He had has his own group, Down Under, called Stay Tuned, performing at corporate functions, etc.

Stay Tuned also participated in the musical section for the Sydney 2000 Olympics. They also did the New Year’s Eve scene, for five consecutive years, at the Sydney landmark Centre Point Tower.

Roger will most certainly bring back the popular ‘60s and ‘70s vibes, so you have got to be there to experience it all…when music was so enjoyable to listen to.
