By Saman Indrajith

Opposition MPs invaded the Well of the House yesterday, demanding action against an estate superintendant in Matale for chasing away 14 persons, belonging to three families, after demolishing their houses.

The protesting MPs demanded the arrest of the superintendent of the state-owned Elkaduwa Plantations.

MP Vadivel Suresh said that the government depended on Indian aid but did not care for the plight of the estate workers of Indian origin.

MP Suresh played a video of the victims crying.

MPs Vadivel Suresh, V. Radhakrishnan, Velu Kumar, Udaya Kumar, Rohini Kumari Wijeratne, Mano Ganesan, Kings Nelson, Chaminda Wijesiri, and Dr. Kavinda Jayawardana were seen sitting in the Well of the House shouting slogans.

The Speaker repeatedly said that the matter should be inquired by the Plantations Minister but the protesting MPs continued their protest for about one hour.
