Sri Lanka would import the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in the future, State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals, Prof. Channa Jayasumana told the media yesterday.

Prof. Jayasumana said that there were enough stocks of other vaccines in the country for the first and second doses.

Prof. Jayasumana said that the government was currently focused on vaccinating schoolchildren and administering the booster dose to those who had received the first two doses of the vaccine.

“We have decided that we will use the Pfizer vaccine for this purpose. Therefore, in the future, we will import only Pfizer. We have placed an order for 14.5 million doses of Pfizer. The manufacturer has agreed to send us stocks on a weekly basis,” he said.
