Oneli clinches Under 14 girls’ singles title

Oneli Samarawickrama clinched the Under 14 girls’ singles title, while Lithum Jayabandu and Methika Wickramasinghe reached the corresponding boys’ singles final of the First Capital SSC Open Tennis Championships 2022 continued in Colombo on Monday.

The Newstead Girls’ School Negombo player Samarawickrama scored 10-6 in a tie breaker to clinch the championship after Githmi Fernando fought back to level sets.

Samarawickrama won the two-hour long battle 6-2, 2-6, 10-6.

In an all-Ananda semi-final of the Under 14 boys’ singles, Methika Wickramasinghe prevailed over Saha Kapilasena 3-6, 7-6(7), 10-6 to reach the final.

In the other semi-final, Lithum Jayabandu was the winner after Kavidu Sawmya retired in the second set. Jayabandu was leading the second set 2-0. The semi-final scores read 6-3, 2-0 in Jayabandu’s favour.
