O/L Examination put off again

The Ministry of Education has decided to postpone the GCE Ordinary Level Examination. It would now be held from 21 February to 03 March 2022, Minister of Education, Prof. GL Peiris said yesterday.

Addressing the media at Battaramulla, Prof. Peiris said that the examination had been postponed due to the prevailing pandemic situation.

Minister Peiris said that top priority had been assigned to the task of reopening schools as soon as possible and the vaccination of all teachers and non-academic staff members had to be expedited. As at yesterday 77 percent of teachers and non-academic staff members had been vaccinated, the minister said.

Prof. Peiris said that the salary anomaly issue in the teaching profession had been there for 24 years and the government was doing best to solve it once and for all. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in his policy manifesto had given a pledge that the issue would be sorted out, the minister said.
