NWSDB assures continuous water supply to Colombo and suburbs unless May rains fail
By Rathindra Kuruwita
The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) would be able to ensure a continuous and adequate water supply to Colombo and its suburban areas in the coming two months if people used water sparingly, NWSDB Deputy General Manager Anoja Kaluarachchi said yesterday (11). She said that the Kalatuwawa and Labugama reservoirs had been built to provide water for the city and its suburbs.
“There is adequate water at Kalatuwawa for 65 days. There is enough water at Labugama for 105 days. If it rains in two months we will be able to provide required water to the city and its suburbs without a problem this year,” she said. However, Kaluarachchi urged people to use water sparingly. She added that some parts of the country are already experiencing water shortages.
