NUJ’s 116th birth anniversary marked last week

The 116th birth anniversary of the late Desamanya N.U. Jayawardena was commemorated last week with floral tributes laid beside his memorials at Cambridge Place, Colombo-7 and the MMBL-Pathfinder headquarters at Riverpoint Peliyagoda as well as charitable acts to mark the occasion.

The N.U. Jayawardena Trust completed a rehabilitation project at the Pandura-Gorakana Siri Dharmarakshitharamaya, and also presented scholarships to the Chundikuli Girls College, Jaffna to mark this occasion, a news release said.

MMBL-Pathinder CEO K. Balasunderam, who was closely associated with the late Mr. Jayawardena laid floral tributes at the two memorials, it said.

The late Mr. Jayawardena (1908 – 2002) was the first Sri Lankan Governor of the Central Bank, a senator, financier and pioneer in the private sector.Pictured above is a vase of flowers being laid before the late Jayawardena’s bust at the MMBL-Pathfinder headquarters by Mr. Balasunderam.
