NUJ’s 115th birth anniversary marked with memorial plate

A special plate commemorating the 115th birth anniversary of the late Desamanya N.U. Jayawardena was recently produced by the Desamanya N.U. Jayawardena Trust.

Jayawardena (1908- 2002) was the first Sri Lankan Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, a Senator, leading financier, and pioneer in the private sector.

The first commemorative plate was officially presented by his son Nimal Jayawardena to Mr. K. Balasundaram, CEO and a Group Director of MMBL-Pathfinder, who worked closely with Jayawardena.

He has also been associated with the Jayawardena family for over three generations. The plate will be presented to persons who knew and were connected with the late Jayawardena, a news release from the Trust said.
