By Rathindra Kuruwita
There about 4,100 Sri Lankans infected with HIV, Director of National STD/AIDS Control Programme (NSACP), Dr. Janaki Vidanapathirana told journalists in Colombo recently.
However, the health authorities had been able to identify only a fraction of the HIV infected persons, she said.
“Even most of those we have identified don’t come for treatment,” she said.
Dr. Geethani Samaraweera of NSACP said there were 34 clinics around the country that treat STDs. Patients could access free medicine for HIV at these clinics, she said.
