The Secretary to the Governor of the Northern Province has written to the Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education, requesting to close the Jaffna University because the Vice Chancellor is not adhering to health guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The letter sent to the Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education, Kapila Perera, states that all universities of the country have been closed due to COVID-19, but the Vice Chancellor of the Jaffna University has organised a number of events with the participation of students.
The Office of the Governor of the Northern Province wrote to the Vice Chancellor earlier, asking him to suspend such activities. The copies of those requests have been sent to the Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education.
The Secretary to the Governor of the Northern Province has also copied the letter to General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) and the Secretary to the Ministry of Health.
