Norwegian Ambassador calls on the Speaker
Norwegian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Ms. Trine Jøranli Eskedal, who called on Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena at the parliamentary complex on Thursday, exchanged views on potential exchanges between parliamentarians in the future.
The envoy said that previously, as part of a program by the Oslo Centre, a group of Sri Lankan MPs visited the Norwegian Parliament and met with representatives from various political parties with the aim of identifying valuable and parallel lessons in line with the Norwegian context in consensus and coalition building.
At the outset, the Ambassador congratulated Abeywardena on being elected as Speaker of the ninth Parliament.
Ms. Eskedal underscored the importance of learning from practical experiences of various countries and seeking exposure to address challenges faced in different parliaments, and expressed Norway’s willingness to share their parliamentary experience.
They also discussed economic development, the maritime sector, female representation in Parliament, and ways to further the bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and Norway.
Deputy Head of Mission of the Norwegian Embassy, Ms. Hilde Berg-Hansen, Secretary General of Parliament, Dhammika Dasanayaka and senior Parliament officials were also present at the meeting.
