Fishermen from Point Pedro staged, a demonstration on Monday (11) against Northern Politicians for not protecting their fishing rights. They claimed that Indian fishermen were poaching in the seas off the Northern Province depriving them of their livelihood. However, Northern politicians had done nothing about the menace of poaching, they complained.

Northern politicians had not take up with India or its fishermen’s associations the grave injustice, the protesting fishermen pointed out.

“Whenever we protest, Northern politicians come and make promises. However, there is no point in talking to us. They must talk to those who have a say in this matter,” the protesters urged politicians.
