No power cuts at night during weekend
No power cuts will be imposed at night during the weekend. Earlier the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) had instructed the CEB to ensure an uninterrupted power supply during the weekend.
PUCSL chairman Janaka Ratnayake has said there is usually a drop in the demand for electricity during weekends. The power cuts are imposed due to the fuel shortages and not because the CEB is unable to generate adequate amounts of power, he has said.
A number of power plants generating more than 500MW of electricity are inactive due to the fuel shortages, the PUCSL chairman added.
“The government needs to take immediate steps to secure the supply of fuel for the CEB,” he said.
The daytime power cuts will be reduced to three hours today (Feb. 26) for some areas, while power cuts of 2 hours and 30 minutes will be experienced in other areas.
