No minster has seen questionable New Fortress Cabinet paper – Wimal
National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa yesterday said that the government’s agreement with the New Fortress Energy was in contravention with the mandate it had received.
Weerawansa was addressing a meeting at Eheliyagoda, attended by the representatives of 10 SLPP constituents opposed to the controversial deal.
The theme of the meeting was Yugadenavi deal, transparency and cost of living.
“Some people say that the Yugadanavi deal with New Fortress was not struck following a Cabinet but none of the ministers had seen such Cabinet paper;
Stressing that the local power stations would be at the mercy of the US energy firm, where their LNG needs were concerned, in case of the controversial deal being implemented, Minister Weerawsansa said not everybody could protest against the deal while being Cabinet ministers.
Ministers Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Udaya Gammanpila, Dayasiri Jayasekera, Prof.Tissa Vitharane, Dr. W. Weerasinghe, Tiran Alles, A. L. M. Athaulla, Asanga Navaratne, and Gevindu Cumaratunga as well leaders of the coalition parties participated at the meeting.
